The groundhog may have predicted a long winter earlier this month, but that means that Spring is just around the corner.  Whether March comes in like a lion or a lamb, you need to have your lawn ready to grow.  As Seen On TV garden tools and grass seeds can prepare your lawn for the season ahead, giving you a beautiful lawn that your neighbors will envy.

What steps can you take to ensure you have great landscaping without breaking your back in the summer heat?

First, make sure you have a lush, green lawn that is sturdy and resistant to traffic and weather extremes.  Patch Perfect Grass Seed is, well, perfect for quickly growing sturdy grass on spots that have been left bare by heavy foot traffic, extreme shade, or blistering sun.  Each Patch Perfect seed is encapsulated with fertilizer, helping your grass grow quickly and covering barren places on your lawn.

Next, you’ll want to ensure that your entire lawn is thick and green.  Don’t just take care of bare spots; you’ll want a lush, gorgeous lawn from porch to curb.  Quick Lawn is designed to start growing hardy four-season grass in as little as seven days.  Canada Green Perfect Grass Turf grows in as little as ten days and is cultivated to be weed-resistant, insect-resistant, and resilient against both high traffic and extreme temperatures.

When your lawn is in shape, it’s time to start looking at your  flowerbeds.  Even before spring planting, there are things you can do to get your beds and bushes ready for landscaping.  Awesome Auger can be used to cut roots, dig holes for planting, aerate the soil, and more.  Use Awesome Auger before planting to destroy weeds at the root, and use it during planting to dig holes without sacrificing your back.

Finally, don’t neglect your bushes and hedges.  During the winter, your manicured hedges may lose their shape, and bushes become overgrown and scraggly.  The Garden Groom is a safe, yet powerful hedge trimmer that collects debris as it works.  You won’t have to pick up branches, leaves, and twigs after trimming your hedges, because the Garden Groom shreds and collects clippings, which can in turn be used for mulch.

It may be cold outside now, but it’s time to start thinking about warmer weather.  Enjoy curling up by the fire, because yard work will be here before you know it.  Fortunately, As Seen On TV lawn and garden products can make the job easier and will have you quickly enjoying the fruits of your labor.

One of the really, really hard things about working for a company that offers As Seen On TV products is that you want to buy almost everything you see.  We’ve discussed before how infomercial products are designed to fill a need that you may not have even realized you had, so when I see a product that solves any dilemma in my life, or that looks fun, or that will make things easier, or . . . well, I just want it.  A lot.

Of course, money does not, in fact, grow on trees, so I have really worked to curb my impulse spending.  Instead buying the things that I oh-my-goodness-have-to-have-now, I have started keeping a mental As Seen On TV wishlist.  Here are some of my top picks on infomercial products that I desperately want (and will only be able to refrain from buying for so long):

  1. The Instyler – Smooth, shiny, and bouncy hair?  Eliminate frizzies in less time?  Straight hair that isn’t smashed flat and limp?  Using one tool to curl or straighten?  Who wouldn’t love this?!  Sign me up.
  2. The Flex Mini – Okay, seriously.  A butt workout without working out.  A lunge-free and squat-free way to get firm thighs and rounded glutes.  It’s on.
  3. Big Top Cupcake – I don’t honestly know why I want this so badly.  I just do.  I think it would be fun to make these for my son’s birthday parties.  Or maybe it’s just the idea of a ginormous cupcake sounds so heavenly.
  4. Luminess Airbrush Tan – I was raised in the era of the “healthy glow” by a mother who ingrained in me that “tan fat looks better than white fat,” but am now forced to face the facts about the sun’s damaging properties.  With an airbrush tan, maybe I could have that sunkissed look I love without those pesky wrinkles and melanoma.
  5. Gyro Bowl – I have a toddler.  End of story.

Of course, this is an incomplete list of Stuff I Want.  I pretty much want every Beachbody exercise DVD program and all of the plants that let me grow my own cherries/blueberries/peppers/insert-produce-here at home.  As long as I’m doing this, I know my As Seen On TV wishlist will continue to grow like grass on a Canada Green lawn.

On a side note, a few of the products to which I’ve already succumbed include Strap Perfect, Kangaroo Keeper, Emery Cat, Snuggie, and Bare Lifts–all of which have been well worth it!

What’s on your infomercial wishlist?

As Seen on TV Products to Help Summer Bug Off

I love summer.  The golden sun, the long days, the lazy schedule . . . . This summer, though, most of our nation has been gripped by a heat wave that belies last winter’s “Snowpocalypse.”  Even a true summer-phile like me can get a little tired of the unbearable heat when a seemingly endless string of 100+ degree days is unbroken by a good ol’ gully washer.  At SeenOnTV Express, our neck of the woods is crippled by the worst drought since the Dust Bowl, and our lakes, one of the only respites from the heat, have been deemed off-limits due to toxic blue-green algae flourishing in the blistering, dry heat.

The only good thing about this summer’s heat and drought is that it has put the kibosh on mosquitoes, the bane of my existence.  Unfortunately, that is not true of all bugs, pests, no-see-ums, and menacing, prolific flies.  Our hatred of flies in the house has become so extreme that our 2-year-old son has taken to the belief that anything that must be closed must be done in an effort to “keep the flies out.”

I’d better shut the garage door to keep the flies out.

I’d better close the refrigerator to keep the flies out.

I’d better shut the drawer to keep the flies out.

I’m thinking this must be a common refrain in our household, since our toddler has so thoroughly ingrained it into his little heart.

As Seen On TV Magic MeshAs always, though, there is an As Seen On TV product to solve the problem.  One of my favorite infomercial pest control products is the Magic Mesh magnetic screen door.   My husband and I installed a regular screen door once, and the fact that we remain married after the ordeal is a testament to pure stubbornness.  Magic Mesh, though, is easily installed on most door frames, including those on campers and RV’s.  At the end of the season, when it’s no longer needed, Magic Mesh is just as easily removed and stored.

With Magic Mesh, you can avoid the loud banging of a screen door as busy kids run in and out.  With 18 magnets pulling the screen closed, Magic Mesh closes quickly and quietly, keeping bugs out without making you bug out.

Another key feature of Magic Mesh is its ability to be used hands free.  If you are carrying plates of food to your backyard barbecue, or if you are frequently balancing meat, vegetables, and grill tools for outdoor cooking, Magic Mesh lets you easily exit and enter hands-free–and it closes automatically behind you.

If you’re bugged by insects when you are outside, consider trying Bug Bands insect repelling wristbands.  Chemical-free and odor-free, Bug Bands are a safe alternative to smelly citronella candles or noxious insect repellent sprays.

Way Back Wednesday Spring Fever IV: Grass with Class

For the past few weeks, we’ve been spotlighting ways to get a prepare for the warmer weather by getting a Springalicious body (it’s a word--feel free to use it).  As women all across America are primping and pruning themselves to bare golden shoulders and smooth, tanned legs, men across our nation are drooling with anticipation.  But as their wives and their neighbors wives and that cute divorcee that just moved in down the street are prepping for swimsuit season, these men have a different type of lust on their minds--lawn lust.

For verily, the unwritten commandment, “Thou Shalt Not Covet Thy Neighbor’s Landscaping,” is being broken in households across the land.  But, lo I say unto you, fear not!  Infomercial lawn care products shall rescue you from the abyss of brown grass, patchy turf, and pernicious weeds, which are an abomination unto thy Homeowners’ Association.

There was a time when having the nicest lawn on the block required heavy, backbreaking labor and the vigilant use of a reel mower, which is, inexplicably making a comeback as a “green” alternative to finishing the yard work sometime before you die of heat stroke.

Lawn care evolution made things both easier and more difficult for Weekend Warriors in their attempt to out-green each other’s landscaping.

Notable Innovation #1:  The Riding Lawn Mower

Notable Innovation #2:  Chemical Lawn Care Services

All of the things that simplified lawn cultivation and made neighborhood yards more lush and lovely, also meant you had to work harder to keep up with Mister-I-Win-the-HOA-Beautiful-Yard-Contest-Every-Year.

Luckily, you no longer have to don a Toreador hat to get “grass with class” or hire a toothy guy wielding a chemically enhanced pogo stick to get the lawn of your dreams.

Infomercial lawn care products include not only tools to maintain a lawn, but also the necessary ingredients to get your lawn started:

  • Quick Lawn promises year-round grass that is resistant to weeds, pests, and diseases, and which starts to grow in as little as one week.
  • Canada Green Perfect Turf Grass is designed to be resilient, withstanding extreme temperatures ranging from -40 degrees to 120 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Patch Perfect bills itself as “like grass seed on steroids” with each seed encased in fertilizer to promote quick, hardy growth in bare patches, shade, and other areas where typical grass struggles to grow.

As seen on TV grass seed, turf patches, and fertilizers can give you a beautiful, weed-free yard that will be the envy of your neighbors--and might induce their Springalicious wives to show up at your next barbecue baring--er, bearing potato salad and brownies.
